Marldon's Lanes & Walks

Marldon’s beautiful lanes, countryside, ancient church and Church House Inn are featured in several published walking guides ranging from a short stroll through the village to a ten mile adventure taking in Compton Castle and surrounding villages.

Whether you take a short stroll to the Inn from Millmans Cottages or a long hike, you will be captivated by the fauna, flora and views of this beautiful part of Devon.

Dartmoor

Haytor

Dartmoor was designated one of the National Parks of England and Wales in 1951. It is a beautiful moorland landscape with wooded valleys and wind swept Tors. 369 square miles (953 sq. km.) in area, with about 31,000 people living in it, and where about 10 million visits are made each year. All the land is owned by someone and the public is able to roam freely on unenclosed, open moorland on both foot and horseback. There are also about 600 miles of public rights of way. Dartmoor is a rich habitat for wildlife and has a wealth of archaeological remains.

Becky Falls

Becky Falls, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is a private woodland estate that has been a much loved attraction since Victorian times.

Visitors enjoy the peace and tranquility of this staggeringly beautiful, secluded moorland valley set 750 feet above sea level.

All ages are fascinated by the falls, its rock formations and its tree canopy soaring overhead. Children love the place!

Brixham Beach

Beaches in Brixham include:-

Breakwater Beach, Large pebbly, close to Brixham centre.
St Mary's Bay, Mainly sand, good for exploring rock pools.
Shoalstone, Popular for sunbathing, open air sea water swimming pool.
Fishcombe and Churston Caves, Two small sandy beaches, quiet.

Torquay Beaches

All the beaches listed have parking but not necessarily alongside the beach. Refreshments are available at many beaches, (but may be limited to the summer season).

Maidencombe, Sand and shingle.
Watcombe Sand, steep in places.
Oddicombe, sand and shingle, good facilities.
Redgate Shingle, steep in places.
Anstey's Cove, Shingle and rock, steep in places.
Meadfoot, Pebble and sand.

Babbacombe, Sand and shingle, fishing off breakwater.

There is a beautiful string of many Beaches in Torbay, many of which carry the much coveted European Blue Flag award for cleanliness and quality.
